One Simple Way to Share the Gospel with Your Children - Homemade Resurrection Eggs

Are you looking for a way to share the Gospel with your children this Easter?

Resurrection Eggs are a simple, easy to assemble, no crafts skills required way to visually share the Gospel of Jesus to your children.

With these eggs, children are able to connect images with concrete truths of the Word. It's a fun and easy way to talk about the Gospel and ANYone can put together these eggs with common household items.

Resurrection Eggs

Resurrection Eggs tell the story of Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection with little items tucked inside Easter eggs. It's a great way for children to use their hands to open the eggs, explore parts of the Gospel story and to remember what Easter is all about.

You can purchase Resurrection Eggs that tell a more robust version of the Gospel and include Scripture and a devotional to walk through the content of each egg.

BUT! Don't wait until next year to do this activity!

Here is a simple version you can make right now!

Homemade Resurrection Eggs

But I have a simple version that you can make out of things you probably already have in your house. It will take you minutes to make these eggs and you'll be able to walk through the Gospel with you children.

What you need:

  • 6 plastic Easter Eggs (that open)
  • a sharpie or permanent marker
  • A small globe, a piece of map or a world drawn on paper and cut out
  • bandaid
  • small cross - can be made by tying two sticks together to form cross
  • strip of gauze, piece of linen or material
  • small rock
  • pieces of candy or confetti
  • a place to store eggs like an egg carton

Directions:

  1. Write out "E-A-S-T-E-R" on the plastic eggs with a sharpie marker - one letter per egg.
  2. Fill each egg with corresponding contents and close them up
  3. Read the rhyme and/or Bible verses to go with each lettered egg to your children.

Contents:

  • E - globe, piece of map, or world drawn on paper and cut out
  • A - Bandaid
  • S - small cross
  • T - piece of gauze or cloth
  • E - small stone
  • R - pieces of candy or confetti

Telling the Easter Story

Sit down with you children after breakfast or during an activity time and bring out the Resurrection Eggs. Tell them you are going to talk about the story of Jesus and what Easter is all about.

Pick up one egg at a time.

Let your kids open the egg and talk about what's inside.

Then read they rhyme (for younger children) and / or the Bible verses that correspond to the letter on the egg.

Dialogue about the story - ask them questions back.

And most off all, pray for God to soften their hearts to be receptive to the Gospel.

The Rhyme:

E is for EACH of us. God loves everyone.

A is for A broken world, so God sent His only Son.

S is for our SINS that Jesus took away

T is for the TOMB, where Jesus lay for 3 whole days.

E is for the EMPTY tomb, the stone was rolled away.

R is for the RISEN Lord, Jesus is alive today!

Verses that Correspond:

E - God loves EACH of us - John 3:16 β€œFor God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

A - we are ALL broken from sin and need healing - Romans 3:23 "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"

S - Jesus died for our SINS - Peter 2:24 "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed."

T - Jesus died and was laid in a TOMB - John 19:40-41"So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid."

E - Jesus rose from the dead and left and EMPTY tomb - Luke 24:2 "And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus."

R - We can celebrate because Jesus is RISEN from the dead! - Matthew 28:5-6 "But the angel said to the women, β€œDo not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay."

EASTER is about Jesus who came to the earth, lived a perfect life to be the sacrifice for the sin of all people. He died on a cross, was buried, and then was raised to life on the third day. We can celebrate that Jesus has defeated death, sin, evil, and all the yuckiness in this world. - We respond to this love by asking for forgiveness (repenting) and believing in Jesus and following Him as our Lord. - Acts 2:38-39 And Peter said to them, β€œRepent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”
