Christian Contentment

Philippians 4:10-13

Contentment is learned.

Contentment is a trust in God’s sovereignty.

Contentment is a satisfaction in the all-sufficiency of God.

What a contented quiet heart can do in a trial:

  1. Recognize the cross you are bearing is a cross. “Inward quietness is not in opposition to the sense of affliction.” – Burroughs

  2. Make your moan and complaint to the Lord – seek him! and seek out wise counsel.

  3. Pursuing legal and biblical means to get out of the trial, but also to wait on the Lord and let our hearts

Challenges to a quiet contented heart:

  1. Do not murmur or repine

  2. Do not fret or be vexed

  3. See that there is not a tumultuousness of spirit in you

  4. See that there is not unsettledness in your spirit

  5. Do not be distracted by fears in your hearts

  6. Turn from sinking discouragements

  7. Do not rebel against the Lord
