Christmas and Submission

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38

This is what I want us to take away from the Christmas story today – humility and submission to the authority of God.

First, we have God’s Son, in humility coming from heaven to be born of a woman, born under the law so that He might do God the Father’s redemptive will on earth. He was fully submissive to the Father’s will and the Lord glorified Him.
Second, we have Mary, who was anticipating the Messiah, wanting, waiting, but never would have guessed she would be the woman who God would use to bring the Messiah into this World.

When we look at God’s Lordship and authority in our lives is a blessing.

First of all God is a God of order not of chaos.

Second, God gives us His law and His word which gives us clarity and understanding of Him, ourselves, and this world.

Third, God’s authority means His plan will always go forward and He will always be victorious.

My hope is that as we remember Christ coming into the world we would remember His humility and submission to the will of His Father, that we would take the posture of Mary with a heart bent toward the Lord saying – let it be to me according to your word.
