The Prudent Woman

The foolish home vs the home of wisdom:

Proverbs 19:13-14 says

“A foolish son is ruin to his father,

and a wife’s quarreling is a continual dripping of rain.

House and wealth are inherited from fathers,

but a prudent wife is from the Lord.”

What is prudence?

The Hebrew word used in this passage is sakal which is translated as understanding, wise, consider, skillful; having circumspection which – I love the 1828 Webster’s dictionary definition which says: Caution; attention to all the facts and circumstances of a case, and to the natural or probable consequences of a measure, with a view to a correct course of conduct, or to avoid danger.

Prudence is such a great word that means so much.

It means to look upon and have insight; to give attention to consider, ponder to act wisely; a prudent wife really is from the Lord – first because it is God who acts in us to be prudent, and two because it is a true gift the that household.

Proverbs 10:19

When words are many, transgression is not lacking,

but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.

Proverbs 12:16

The vexation of a fool is known at once,

but the prudent ignores an insult.

Proverbs 13:16

Every prudent man acts with knowledge,

but a fool flaunts his folly.

Proverbs 14:8

The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way,

but the folly of fools is deceiving.

Proverbs 14:15

The simple believes everything,

but the prudent gives thought to his steps.
